Announcing Tagging for Amazon Elastic MapReduce Clusters

Posted on: Dec 5, 2013

We are pleased to announce that you can now add tags to your Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR) clusters. This gives you the ability to attach metadata to your cluster and segment your Amazon EMR billing statements by tag. A tag consists of a user-defined key and value, and you can add up to ten tags to your cluster. Tags added to your cluster will also be automatically propagated to the Amazon EC2 instances that are part of the cluster. This new feature allows you to add details to your cluster (for instance: owner, workflow, or cost center), and use this information to organize your Amazon EMR and associated Amazon EC2 billing statements.

You can use the Amazon EMR Command Line Interface (CLI), APIs, SDKs (available soon), and Management Console to manage tags on your Amazon EMR clusters. If you choose to use the CLI, you must use version 2013-12-02 or later (click here to download the latest version).
