You can now launch M4 instances when using Amazon RDS for MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle and SQL Server. M4 Instances have a good balance of compute, memory and network resources and are EBS-optimized by default. M4 instances comes in 5 sizes ranging from 2 to 40 vCPUs and 8 GB to 160 GB of memory, and have superior performance and lower prices than RDS M3 instances. M4 instances feature a custom Intel Xeon E5-2676 v3 Haswell processor optimized specifically for AWS. They run at a base clock rate of 2.4 GHz and can go as high as 3.0 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost. The Amazon RDS M4 instances are available for databases using MySQL 5.6; MariaDB 10.0; PostgreSQL 9.3 and 9.4, Oracle 11.2.0.4.v* and 12.1.0.2.v1 as well as SQL Server Standard and Enterprise Edition versions 10.50, 11.00, and 12.00. You can create new M4 instances with just a few clicks using the "Launch DB Instance" wizard in the AWS Management Console. To migrate an existing instance, first upgrade your instance to one of the database versions listed previously, and then restore a snapshot of that database instance to a new M4 instance.
Amazon RDS M4 instances are available today in the US East (Northern Virginia), US West (Northern California), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Frankfurt), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney - Multi-AZ while using M4 instances is currently not supported in Sydney), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) regions.
