Announcing Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) support for Elastic Load Balancing in Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

Posted on: Jan 25, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Application Load Balancers now support native Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). With this ability, clients can now connect to the Application Load Balancer in a dual-stack mode via either IPv4 or IPv6.

After you enable IPv6 for your VPC, you can turn on IPv6 on the Application Load Balancer by selecting dualstack for the IP address type when configuring the load Balancer. You will also be able to assign security groups configured through the Security Group console for IPv6 traffic on Application Load Balancer just as you do for IPv4.

IPv6 support is available today for all Application Load Balancers in US East (N.Virginia), US West (N.California), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), South America (Sao Paulo), AWS GovCloud (US), and can be accessed from the Elastic Load Balancing console, SDK and API. Support for the remaining regions will be available in the coming weeks.
