Elasticsearch 5 now available on Amazon Elasticsearch Service

Posted on: Jan 30, 2017

Your analytics and search applications can now benefit from Amazon Elasticsearch Service’s support for Elasticsearch 5 and Kibana 5. Elasticsearch is a popular search and analytics engine for log analytics, full text search, application monitoring, and more. Amazon Elasticsearch Service delivers Elasticsearch’s easy-to-use APIs and real-time capabilities along with the availability, scalability, and security required by production workloads.

When creating an Amazon Elasticsearch Service domain, you can now select Elasticsearch version 5.1.1. All Amazon Elasticsearch Service domains using Elasticsearch 5.1.1 are bundled with Kibana 5.1.1, the latest version of the open-source visualization tool.

Elasticsearch 5 offers powerful new features that make it faster, more secure, and easier to use. Some of the highlights of Elasticsearch 5 include:

  • Support for Painless Scripting: Painless is Elasticsearch’s new built-in scripting language that allows you to run advanced queries against your data, and automate operations such as partial index updates in a fast and secure manner.
  • Better Indexing Performance: Elasticsearch 5 offers significantly better indexing throughput so that newly added data is available quickly for querying.
  • New Ingestion API: Popular Logstash transformation functions such as grok, split, convert and date are now available directly via the Elasticsearch API, so you can easily ingest data into Elasticsearch.

As part of this release, Amazon Elasticsearch Service now supports 15 new Elasticsearch APIs including shrink and reindex, and 6 new plugins including Mapper Mumur3, Ingest Processor Attachment, and Smart Chinese Analysis.
