Amazon QuickSight launches new analytical functions, Athena Workgroup and Presto VPC connector support

Posted on: Jan 3, 2020

Amazon QuickSight makes available new math functions to perform advanced statistical calculations. These functions include logarithms (log()), natural logarithm (ln()), expotent (exp()), square root (sqrt()) and absolute (abs()). Additionally, QuickSight now supports level aware aggregations on RANK, DENSE RANK and PERCENTILE RANK functions. With this, you can compute these functions on your business metrics irrespective of the filters applied and aggregations performed on your visuals. To learn more, see here.

Amazon QuickSight also introduced support for Athena Workgroup associations with Athena data sources. Workgroups let you associate data usage controls on Athena, allowing costs associated with queries to be controlled based on data scanned per query, or on an aggregated time basis (per hour or per day). Workgroups also help allocate the cost of usage to the right business unit or team within your organization. To learn more, see here.

Finally, following the integration of Amazon VPC with QuickSight, you can now also connect to your data in Presto data source within VPC to build dashboards on QuickSight. See here for details.

All these features are now available in Enterprise Edition and Standard Editions in all QuickSight regions - US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon), EU (Frankfurt, Ireland and London), and Asia Pacific (Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo).
