Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, a service that provides fully managed native Microsoft Windows file systems, has now made Data Deduplication, user storage quotas, and other administration features launched on November 20, 2019 available to all file systems. Until today, these features were available only on file systems created since November 20. Now, storage administrators can use these features on any existing Amazon FSx file system.
The administration features launched on November 20, 2019 that are now available to all file systems are: (i) Data Deduplication to reduce storage costs associated with redundant data (with savings of 50-60% for general file shares); (ii) user storage quotas to monitor and control user-level storage consumption; (iii) file share management via PowerShell to automate migration, synchronization, and ongoing management of file shares; (iv) user sessions and open files management to restore activity on files locked by inactive users; and (v) enforcement of in-transit encryption on all file system connections to meet your compliance needs.
