Amazon Lightsail now supports resource monitoring, alarming and notifications

Posted on: Feb 27, 2020

Amazon Lightsail now supports resource monitoring, alarming and notifications. With this launch, you can can set up thresholds for each of the monitored metrics for Amazon Lightsail instances, load balancers and databases, and be alerted if the thresholds are exceeded via email and SMS notifications.

This feature will allow you to quickly understand the health of your Lightsail infrastructure, and be alerted if there are any issues.

You can define up to 2 alarms per metric on instances, load balancers and databases. For example, one alarm could be used as a warning and the other alarm could fire when it has exceeded a critical threshold.

To create the alarm, you simply select the metric you want to alarm on, a threshold value for the metric to exceed and how long the metric needs to exceed the threshold value to trigger the alarm.

When an alarm is breached, an alert banner is displayed in the Lightsail console.

Additionaly, you can choose to receive notifications via email and/or SMS text message via Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS). Email address and SMS contact numbers can be provided on a region by region basis, and not all regions support SMS text messaging (see our documentation for more information).

There is no additional cost associated with using this new functionality.

If you're already up and running on Lightsail, check out the documentation on how to create your first set of alarms.
