We are thrilled to announce AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, a fully managed capability that allows AWS IoT Core customers to connect and manage wireless devices that use low-power long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) connectivity with the AWS cloud. Using AWS IoT Core, enterprises can now setup a private LoRaWAN network by connecting their own LoRaWAN devices and gateways to the AWS cloud - without developing or operating a LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS). This allows customers to eliminate the undifferentiated work and operational overhead of managing an LNS, and enables them to quickly connect and secure LoRaWAN device fleets at scale. AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN also makes it easy to act on the data from connected devices using AWS services for processing, storage, analytics, or machine learning. With built-in integration with AWS IoT Rules Engine, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN automatically routes messages from connected LoRaWAN devices to customer defined rules, thus accelerating IoT application development.
Getting started with AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is really easy. With support for LoRaWAN standard specification, customers can connect LoRaWAN compliant devices, without any requirement to modify embedded software, for a plug-and-play experience. AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN includes support for open-source gateway software called LoRa Basics Station to enable customers to connect gateways securely to AWS IoT Core and manage them remotely at scale. To further simplify onboarding, we are also excited to launch the AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN hardware qualification program so that customers can source pre-tested gateways and starter kits from our manufacturing partners. Lastly, to provide visibility into the device and gateway status or troubleshoot issues, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN includes the ability to query metrics for registered devices and gateways.
For the initial launch, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is generally available in two Regions: US East (Northern Virginia) and EU (Ireland). To get started, you can purchase AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN qualified gateways or starter kits from the AWS Partner Device Catalog and then login to the AWS Management Console. With AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, you only pay for what you use. There are no upfront commitments or minimum fees. To learn more, see the AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN developer guide.
