AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is now available in the Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), and US West (Oregon) AWS Regions, extending the footprint to 5 AWS Regions. This is in addition to the IoT Core for LoRaWAN availability in US East (N. Virginia) and EU (Ireland) AWS regions.

AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is a fully managed capability that allows AWS IoT Core customers to connect and manage wireless devices that use low-power long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) connectivity with the AWS cloud. Using AWS IoT Core, enterprises can now setup a private LoRaWAN network by connecting their own LoRaWAN devices and gateways to the AWS cloud - without developing or operating a LoRaWAN Network Server (LNS). This allows customers to eliminate the undifferentiated work and operational overhead of managing an LNS, and enables them to quickly connect and secure LoRaWAN device fleets at scale.

AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN also makes it easy to act on the data from connected devices using AWS services for processing, storage, analytics, or machine learning. With built-in integration with AWS IoT Core Rules Engine, the device data (uplink) is automatically routed and transformed according to customer defined rules. Developers can also send application messages to the connected devices (downlink) using APIs. With transparent, pay-as-you-go pricing with no monthly commitments, you can cost-effectively and reliably scale your LoRaWAN device fleets.

Getting started with AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is really easy. AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN supports open-source gateway-LNS protocol software called LoRa Basics Station which simplifies gateway management at scale. The IoT Core for LoRaWAN gateway qualification program enables customers to source Lorawan gateways and starter kits that partners have pretested and qualified to meet the required LoRa Basics Station specification. Customers can also buy any off-the-shelf sensor or actuator that supports the LoRaWAN specification 1.0.x or 1.1 and connect it to AWS IoT Core without any requirement to modify embedded software.

To get started, you can purchase AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN qualified gateways or starter kits from the AWS Partner Device Catalog, login to the AWS Management Console, and navigate to AWS IoT Core → Wireless Connectivity console.
