Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) now offers customers the option to use Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) while accessing the RDS Service APIs

The continued growth of the Internet is exhausting available Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addresses. The use of IPv6 increases the number of available addresses several fold and customers no longer need to manage overlapping address spaces in their VPCs. To use this new capability, point your applications to use Amazon RDS’s new dual-stack endpoints which support both IPv4 and IPv6. In most cases, no further configuration is required, because many network clients will prefer IPv6 addresses by default.

Usage of Amazon RDS’s new dual-stack endpoints ending in api.aws are available at no additional charge. RDS support for IPv6 for RDS Service APIs is generally available in all Amazon Web Services Regions, except Asia Pacific (Jakarta). Get started with the RDS Service APIs here.
