Amazon AppStream 2.0 adds Graphical User Interface (GUI) support for the Linux Image Assistant tool. With this launch, you can now create Linux AppStream 2.0 images in the similar easy way you create Windows AppStream 2.0 images. The new tool gives you step-by-step visual guidance throughout the entire process, greatly reducing the complexity of creating Linux AppStream 2.0 images.

Amazon AppStream 2.0 launched the support for Amazon Linux 2 back in 2021, enabling customers to stream Linux applications at low cost. At launch, Linux Image Assistant only had command line interface and it required the administrators to run multiple Linux commands and scripts in a Linux terminal. While some like the command line interface, others prefer the familiar GUI experience of Image Assistant application on Windows AppStream 2.0.

Now with this launch, you can choose to use either command line or graphical interface to create Linux AppStream 2.0 images. To launch the new GUI Image Assistant on Linux image builders, you must use AppStream 2.0 agent released on or after September 21, 2022. To learn more about the new Linux Image Assistant tool, visit Amazon AppStream 2.0 administration guide in the AppStream 2.0 documentation.

You can use GUI Image Assistant in all AWS Regions where AppStream 2.0 is offered. To get started with Linux AppStream 2.0, sign into the AppStream 2.0 management console and launch a Linux image builder.
