Elastic Throughput is a new throughput mode for Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) that is designed to provide your applications with as much throughput as they need with pay-as-you-use pricing. Elastic Throughput is designed to further simplify running workloads and applications on AWS by providing file storage that doesn’t require any performance provisioning.
Elastic Throughput is ideal for spiky and unpredictable workloads with performance requirements that are difficult to forecast. When you enable Elastic Throughput on an EFS file system, you don’t specify or provision throughput capacity to meet your application needs; instead, with Elastic Throughput, EFS is designed to automatically deliver the throughput performance your application needs while you pay only for the amount of data read or written.
Amazon EFS already provides fully elastic, pay-as-you-use storage. With Elastic Throughput, Amazon EFS now extends its simplicity and elasticity to performance, so you don’t have to think about provisioning or planning any resources.
Amazon EFS Elastic Throughput is available in all regions supporting EFS except for AWS China (Beijing) region, operated by Sinnet, and AWS China (Ningxia) region, operated by NWCD. To learn more, read the AWS News Blog, and the EFS documentation. To get started, configure Elastic Throughput for existing and new file systems in just a few clicks using the Amazon EFS Console.
