AWS Database Migration Service (AWS DMS), which helps enterprise customers migrate their databases quickly and securely to AWS, just launched a new feature called Schema Conversion. DMS Schema Conversion is a fully managed feature of AWS DMS that automatically assesses and converts the database schema to a format compatible with the target database service in AWS, enabling you to modernize your database and analytics workloads. DMS Schema Conversion is intended for customers who plan to migrate their database and analytics workloads to AWS to help reduce licensing costs and improve performance, agility, and resilience by embracing cloud and database modernization.
With DMS Schema Conversion feature built into DMS, customers can avoid the hassle of implementing piecemeal solutions, especially for heterogeneous migrations. This feature allows you to convert the schema, views, stored procedures, and functions from a source database into the schema for the target database service. With a few clicks, you can generate an assessment report that shows the schema conversion complexity. This report provides prescriptive guidance on how to resolve any incompatibilities between the source and target database engines. It takes hours instead of weeks or months to migrate your database and analytics portfolio once the schema code has been converted, making it possible for customers to perform a complete database migration process from discovery and analysis to schema code conversion to data migration using a single AWS console.
DMS Schema Conversion is generally available in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Singapore).
