Starting today, Application Auto Scaling customers can use tags to manage the AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) permissions related to their auto scaled resources. Prior to this launch there was no way for customers to control IAM permissions based on custom resource tags. Now, permissions can be centrally managed for all resources tagged with the same key-value pairs.
Custom tags enable customers to categorize their AWS resources by purpose, owner, or environment. With this launch, tags can be used to drive IAM permissions based on those categories. For example, customers can now choose to give selected users the permissions to register or de-register a resource from Application Auto Scaling in only certain environments based on the tag values.
Application Auto Scaling (AAS) provides a standardized scaling experience across 13 different AWS services beyond Amazon EC2 in all public regions. For more details about Application Auto Scaling, refer to the user guide.
