Amazon FSx for Windows File Server, a service that provides fully managed file storage built on Windows Server, is increasing the per-file system maximum throughput from 2 GB/s to 12 GB/s and maximum I/O operations per second (IOPS) from 80,000 to 350,000, enabling a broader set of performance-intensive workloads.
Every Amazon FSx for Windows file system has a throughput capacity that determines the speed at which the Windows File Server hosting your file system can serve file data, and until today you could choose a throughput capacity level between 32 MB/s and 2 GB/s. With this launch, you can select from four additional levels of throughput capacity (up to 12 GB/s) that come with correspondingly higher levels of disk IOPS (up to 350,000) when creating or scaling a file system. You can use the higher throughput capacity levels to run and accelerate time-to-results for an even broader set of performance-intensive workloads such as media processing, cloud video editing, database applications, data analytics, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
The new throughput capacity levels are available now for all new file systems in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), US East (Ohio), Europe (Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Singapore). Existing file systems in these Regions will be updated during an upcoming maintenance window to enable scaling to the new throughput capacity levels.
