Why Amazon Connect Health?

Amazon Connect Health Feature Pricing
Ambient documentation
The ambient documentation agent allows providers to spend more time focusing on their patients rather than their screens by drafting clinical notes based on the provider-patient conversation. It is offered as a $99/user/month subscription for up to 600 encounters per user/month. These usage limits ensure that most usage for a user will be covered or effectively unlimited. For instance, a primary care physician typically manages between 200-300 encounters per month. In situations where a user exceeds 600 encounters, the overage charges are $0.036 per minute.
Patient verification
The patient verification agent automates HIPAA-compliant patient identity verification using conversational AI. It integrates natively with your EHR system to collect and validate patient identity in real time — replacing rigid IVR flows with a natural, guided experience.
Patient verification pricing is based on actions. An action is defined as one end-to-end patient conversation — from the moment the patient verification agent is activated to the close of that conversation, regardless of verification outcome.
AWS Free Tier
Amazon Connect Health offers free trials to enable production-scale testing for AWS customers who are using its service features for the first time:
| Feature | Free Tier | Expiration |
|---|---|---|
| Ambient documentation | 60 day free trial per user | 60 days |
| Patient verification | 30,000 actions | 30 days |
Pricing examples
Ambient documentation
Example 1: Established EHR Customer
An EHR vendor has offered ambient documentation to its provider customers for 6 months. The EHR has 500 active subscriptions in a given month.
Total charge calculation:
Total active subscriptions: 500 users
Total cost = [500 users * $99] = $49,500.00
Example 2: First-Time Customer – Free Trial Applied
An EHR customer uses ambient documentation to build a new capability into their application. They activate this new feature, powered by ambient documentation, for 50 provider customers. All 50 providers start using the ambient documentation feature on the first day.
Because all of these 50 users are within their 60 day free trial period, their usage is fully covered by the free tier.
Total charge calculation:
Total active subscriptions: 50 users
Total users within the 60 day free trial period: 50 users
Billable users = [Total active subscriptions] - [Total users within the 60 day free trial period] = 50 users – 50 users = 0 users
Total cost = [0 users * $99] = $0.00
Example 3: Established EHR Customer Activating a New Clinic Customer
An EHR vendor has been using ambient documentation with its provider customers for 6 months. 1,000 provider users have been using the ambient documentation feature since launch. The EHR vendor onboards a new clinic with 100 provider users. All 100 provider users at this new clinic begin using ambient documentation on the first day.
Total charge calculation:
Total active subscriptions: 1,100 users
Total users within the 60 day free trial period: 100 users
Billable users = [Total active subscriptions] - [Total users within the 60 day free trial period] = 1,100 users – 100 users = 1,000 users
Total cost = [1,000 users * $99] = $99,000.00
Example 4: Partial Month Billing at Free Trial Conclusion
An EHR vendor launched ambient documentation capabilities to 200 provider customers 60 days ago. All 200 provider customers started using the ambient documentation capabilities on the first day. There are 10 days remaining in the current 30-day month.
Because the 60 day free trial period is ending in the middle of the month, the subscription fee will be pro-rated for the 10 day partial billing period.
Total charge calculation:
Total active subscriptions: 200 users
Total users within the 60 day free trial period: 0 users
Total billable days in the period: 10 days
Pro-rated billing period = 10 days / 30 days = 0.33
Billable users = [Total active subscriptions] - [Total users within the 60 day free trial period] = 200 users – 0 users = 200 users
Total cost = [Billable users] * [Subscription fee] * [Pro-rated billing period] [200 users * $99 * 0.33] = $6,600.00
Patient verification
Example 1: Established Health System Customer
A regional health system has been using patient verification in its contact center to handle inbound patient calls for 8 months. The health system runs 20,000 patient verification actions in a given month.
Total charge calculation:
Total monthly patient verification usage = 20,000 actions
Total cost = [20,000 actions * $0.15] = $3,000.00
Example 2: First-Time Customer — Free Tier Applied
A new health system customer begins testing patient verification for the first time in the first month using Amazon Connect Health. They run 12,000 patient verification actions to evaluate the capability across two departments.
Because this customer is within their first 30 days and has not yet exceeded the 30,000 - action free trial allowance, their usage is fully covered by the free tier.
Total charge calculation:
Total monthly patient verification usage = 12,000 actions
Free Tier coverage = 30,000 actions
Billable actions = 0 action
Total cost = [0 action x $0.15] = $0.00
