Due to increasing demand, Amazon EC2 H1 Instances are now available in additional Availability Zones (AZs) in the US East (N. Virginia) AWS Region. The additional AZs will give customers more capacity to implement highly redundant architectures.

Amazon EC2 H1 instances are Storage Optimized instances designed for applications that require low cost, high disk throughput and high sequential disk I/O access to very large data sets. Offering the best price/performance in the magnetic disk storage EC2 instance family, H1 instances are ideal for data-intensive workloads such as MapReduce-based workloads, distributed file systems such as HDFS and MapR-FS, network file systems, log or data processing applications such as Apache Kafka, and big data workload clusters.

H1 instances are available today in the US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), US East (Ohio), and Europe (Ireland) AWS Regions. You can launch them as On-Demand Instances, Spot Instances, Dedicated Hosts, Dedicated Instances, and Reserved Instances (both 1-year and 3-year).
