Amazon Web Services (AWS) announces general availability of AWS Ground Station, a fully managed service that lets you control satellite communications, uplink, downlink, process satellite data, and scale your satellite operations. Ground stations are facilities that use antennas to provide communications between the earth and your satellite.
AWS Ground Station offers a network of antenna systems to communicate with Lower Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites using either reservation or on demand scheduling. These antenna systems are located in close proximity to AWS Regions and let you leverage AWS Cloud capabilities with minimal latency. You can use AWS Ground Station with other AWS services such as Amazon S3 to store your data, Amazon Kinesis Data Streams to search for real time business insights, or Amazon Sage Maker to apply machine learning algorithms. There are no long-term commitments, you pay only for the duration you schedule the antennas. With AWS Ground Station, you can focus on rapid innovation instead of operational planning and infrastructure maintenance.
AWS Ground Station is available today in US-West-2 (Oregon) and US-East-2 (Ohio), with more regions coming soon. To learn more about AWS Ground Station, you can read this blog or visit AWS Ground Station product page. To get started with AWS Ground Station, visit the AWS Management console.
