Today, we are announcing EBS direct APIs for Snapshots that provide read access to EBS snapshots. Backup providers can now easily track incremental changes on EBS volumes via EBS snapshots and streamline their workflows to reduce backup times by up to 70%. This enables them to provide more granular recovery point objectives (RPOs) to AWS customers at lower costs.
Backup providers need the ability to get incremental changes on EBS volumes so they can offer value added services to AWS customers. With EBS direct APIs for Snapshots, backup providers can now directly read snapshots and get differences between two snapshots without needing to create EBS volumes and EC2 instances. This makes it easy to get incremental changes on EBS volumes and enables them to achieve backups that are faster, more granular, and cost less.

This feature is now available via APIs through the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) or AWS SDKs in US East (Virginia), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland), EU (Frankfurt), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Tokyo).
