Amazon Aurora Global Database is now available for the PostgreSQL-compatible edition of Amazon Aurora. Aurora Global Database is designed for applications with a global footprint, allowing a single Aurora database to span multiple AWS Regions with as many as five secondary Regions, with fast replication to enable low-latency global reads and fast disaster recovery from region-wide outages.
Aurora Global Database uses storage-based replication with typical replica lag of less than one second, using dedicated infrastructure that leaves your database fully available to serve application workloads. In the unlikely event of a regional degradation or outage, one of the secondary regions can be promoted to full read/write capabilities in less than one minute.
You can create an Aurora Global Database with just a few clicks on the Amazon RDS Management Console or download the latest AWS SDK or CLI; you can also enable Aurora Global Database for existing Aurora PostgreSQL clusters. Aurora Global Database is available in most AWS Regions. Read the Aurora documentation to learn more.
Amazon Aurora combines the performance and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open source databases. It provides up to five times better performance than the typical MySQL database and three times better than PostgreSQL, together with increased scalability, durability, and security.
