Posted on: May 7, 2020

AWS Trusted Advisor is an application that draws upon best practices learned from AWS’ aggregated operational history of serving millions of AWS customers. Trusted Advisor inspects your AWS environment and makes recommendations for saving money, improving system performance, and closing security gaps.

Recently, AWS Trusted Advisor has launched 5 new Cost Optimization checks in Trusted Advisor, including a check for Savings Plan recommendations and 4 checks that provide cost savings recommendations for ElastiCache, RedShift, ElasticSearch and RDS.

1. Savings Plan - Checks your usage of EC2, Fargate, and Lambda and provides Savings Plan purchase recommendations, which allows you to commit to a consistent usage amount in exchange for discounted rates.
2. Amazon ElastiCache Reserved Node Optimization - Checks your usage of ElastiCache and provides recommendations on purchase of reserved nodes to help reduce costs incurred from using ElastiCache On-Demand.
3. Amazon RedShift Reserved Node Optimization - Checks your usage of RedShift and provides recommendations on purchase of reserved nodes to help reduce costs incurred from using RedShift On-Demand.
4. Amazon Elasticsearch Reserved Instance Optimization - Checks your usage of Elasticsearch and provides recommendations on purchase of Reserved Instances to help reduce costs incurred from using Elasticsearch On-Demand.
5. Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Reserved Instance Optimization - Checks your usage of RDS and provides recommendations on purchase of Reserved Instances to help reduce costs incurred from using RDS On-Demand.

AWS customers with Business or Enterprise level of support can now use their master (payer) account to access these checks alongside the existing Cost Optimization category recommendations in AWS Trusted Advisor. Trusted Advisor provides checks across 4 other categories including Security, Performance, Fault Tolerance and Service Limits. Customers can use all existing mechanisms including Trusted Advisor console, Support API, email notification and CloudWatch to access these checks.
