AWS App Mesh increases default limits on several resources

Posted on: Oct 22, 2020

AWS App Mesh is a service mesh that provides application-level networking to standardize how your services communicate, giving you end-to-end visibility and enables options to tune for high-availability of your applications. App Mesh has now increased the default limits for a set of resources - virtual nodes, and virtual gateways. These limit increases make it easier for you to manage larger applications with App Mesh.

You can have up to 50 tasks/pods running the same service/service version represented as one virtual node in the mesh. This is an increase from the previous limit of 10 per virtual node. Additionally, you can now run up to 25 tasks/pods to act as a single virtual gateway. This is an increase from the previous limit of 10 per virtual gateway.

The new limits apply in all Regions where App Mesh is available. The higher limits are reflected in your accounts automatically, and there is no further action required on your end. If you have approved limits that are higher than the new default limits, then you will continue to have the higher limits. To learn more about AWS App Mesh limits, visit our service quotas page or documentation. To see all of the Regions where App Mesh is available, see the AWS Region table.
