vCPU-based Spot Instance Limits are Now Available in Amazon EC2

Posted on: Oct 1, 2020

In 2019 we launched Amazon EC2’s vCPU-based limits for On-Demand Instances to simplify the limit management experience for EC2 customers. Now, we have also made the same improvements for Amazon EC2 Spot Instances. We have migrated the account limit for Spot Instances from being instance based to a vCPU based limit experience. Starting today, you will be able to manage Spot limits from the Amazon EC2 console and the Service Quotas console.

Spot Instance vCPU-based limits are measured in terms of the number of virtual central processing units (vCPUs) attached to your running and requested instances, making it easier to take advantage of Amazon EC2’s broad selection of Instance Types. Just as with On-Demand vCPU-based limits, there are six different Spot Instance limits—one limit that governs the usage of standard instance families such as A, C, D, H, I, M, R, T, and Z, and one limit per specialized instance family for FPGA (F), graphic-intensive (G), general purpose GPU (P), Inferentia chips (Inf) and special memory optimized (X) instances. You can view and manage your limits from the Amazon EC2 console and the Service Quotas console.

vCPU-based instance limits are available in all commercial AWS Regions including the AWS China (Beijing and Ningxia) Regions and they are available in AWS GovCloud (US).
