Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) io2 volumes are now supported for SAP workloads.

io2 volumes feature 99.999% durability and support provisioning 500 IOPS for every provisioned GB. This means that with io2, customers get 100x better volume durability and a 10x higher IOPS to storage ratio – all at the same price as io1. Performance intensive, business-critical SAP applications, such as those running on SAP HANA, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2 will benefit from io2’s higher uptime.

With high durability io2 volumes, customers can reduce the likelihood of storage failures, which improves overall application availability. io2 volumes also support provisioning 10x higher IOPS to storage ratio, up to 500 IOPS for every provisioned GB, so that customers can provision more performance without increasing their spend on storage.

EBS io2 volumes are generally available in US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland), Europe (London), Europe (Stockholm), and Middle East (Bahrain) with more regions coming soon.

For full details on the certification, please see SAP OSS note 1656250.

Customers can get started with io2 volumes using the AWS Management Console, the AWS CLI, or the AWS SDKs. Customers can either create new io2 volumes or use Elastic Volume functionality to seamlessly upgrade their existing EBS volume to an io2 volume without disrupting their applications.
