The Alarms feature in AWS IoT Events allows you to set up, visualize and manage rule-based alerts for devices, equipment, and processes. You can receive alerts via SMS or email in near-real time when equipment data breaches thresholds, allowing operations teams to take timely actions to reduce unplanned equipment downtime.

For any IoT data that you want to monitor, you can define an alarm rule to apply (e.g. rotations per minute is greater than a user defined value), select the severity for this alarm definition (e.g., severity values of 1, 2 and 3 corresponding to high, medium and low alerts), and configure notifications to send when an alarm is triggered (e.g. Email and SMS). To integrate alarm notifications with your own ticketing systems, you can also configure actions to other AWS services such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS), and Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS), to be executed when an alarm triggers.

For Industrial IoT applications, the Alarms feature is integrated into AWS IoT SiteWise, so you can also create alarms from the AWS IoT SiteWise console, a SiteWise Monitor web application, or by using the AWS IoT SiteWise SDK. This allows you to set up alarms on equipment data in AWS IoT SiteWise without any additional effort to publish data to other AWS services. Once you create the alarm, you can use the existing AWS IoT SiteWise API to query the current or historical alarm state over specific time intervals. With SiteWise Monitor web applications, operations teams can preview and visualize equipment alarms, analyze alarm data against live and historical data trends, determine corrective actions to take (e.g., schedule equipment repair), and manage the end-to-end alarm workflow (e.g., acknowledge alarm with comments about actions taken).

The Alarms feature is available in all AWS regions where AWS IoT Events and AWS IoT SiteWise is present. Refer to the Alarms documentation for AWS IoT Events and AWS IoT SiteWise to learn more about this feature.
