Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports the April 2021 Release Updates (RU) for Oracle Database 12.2, 18c, and 19c. The April 2021 Patch Set Update (PSU) for Oracle Database 12.1 will be launched soon.

Oracle Corp. has recently changed the Oracle Java Virtual Machine (JVM) component in the database to disable Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol versions 1.0 and 1.1. To improve database security and secure data access, Amazon RDS for Oracle will disable TLS v1.0 and TLS v1.1 in the JVM starting in the April 2021 PSU/RU. If you use Oracle Java Virtual Machine (JVM) to connect an HTTPS endpoint over TLS v1.0 or TLS v1.1 protocols, update the configuration of the HTTPS endpoint to support TLS v1.2 before upgrading your RDS for Oracle database instances to April 2021 PSU/RU engine. This will ensure the JVM's connectivity to the HTTPS endpoint remains operational. Please note there is no change in the SSL Option and Amazon RDS for Oracle will continue to support TLS v1.0.

Oracle PSUs contain bug fixes and other critical security updates. Beginning with Oracle Database version 12.2.0.1, Amazon RDS for Oracle supports Release Updates (RU) in place of the PSU. To learn more about the Oracle PSUs supported on Amazon RDS, see the Amazon RDS patch update documentation.
