AWS IoT Core Device Advisor, a fully managed cloud-based test capability for validating IoT devices, is now generally available in us-east-1, us-west-2, eu-west-1, and ap-northeast-1 regions. Now, developers can use pre-built tests provided by Device Advisor to validate that their IoT devices implement best practices for reliable and secure connectivity with AWS IoT Core. Device Advisor’s pre-built tests help developers to quickly validate their device software against best practices for usage of TLS, MQTT, Device Shadow, and IoT Jobs thereby reducing the cost and time of development, testing and deployment.
Any device that has been built to connect to AWS IoT Core can take advantage of Device Advisor. Developers can connect their devices to the Device Advisor’s test endpoint in the AWS cloud with just a few clicks, and start testing their devices. Developers can identify common device software issues such as IoT devices being unable to reconnect after an unexpected disconnect by using the test for MQTT reconnect. Developers can get detailed logs in Amazon CloudWatch to troubleshoot and fix the issues during their development and testing cycles before deploying their devices in production. Device Advisor also provides a signed qualification report which can be used by hardware partners to qualify their devices for inclusion in the AWS Partner Device Catalog. Espressif and Eurotech are among the first hardware partners to use Device Advisor and qualify their devices ESP32-C3-DevKitM-1, ESP32-C3-DevKitC-02 and BoltGATE-20-31-Multi-Service-IoT-Edge-Gateway for inclusion in the AWS Partner Device Catalog.
Customers will not incur any additional charge for Device Advisor, however, they will be responsible for any costs associated with AWS usage as part of their testing (e.g. AWS IoT Core usage). For more details, see the AWS IoT Core Pricing page. To learn more and get started, see the Device Advisor’s overview page, technical documentation, and blog.
