Improved cold query performance is now available in Amazon Web Services China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet and Amazon Web Services China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD.
With this improvement, Amazon Redshift can process queries up to 2x faster if and when queries need to be compiled. This improvement gives you better query performance when creating a new Redshift cluster, onboarding a new workload on an existing cluster, or when running a query after a software update to an existing cluster. These query improvements are available in both China regions at no additional cost, and no additional actions are needed to enable it on supported Redshift instance types (DS2, DC2 or RA3).
With this update, query compilations are scaled to a serverless compilation service beyond the compute resources of the leader node of your cluster. When your mission-critical queries are submitted to Amazon Redshift, the cold query performance enhancement feature uses an elastic pan-China cache that is shared by both Beijing and Ningxia regions to store compiled objects to increase cache hits.
Cold query performance improvement is now available in China (Bejing), China (Ningxia), US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (N. California), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (Ireland, Europe (London), and South America (São Paulo) regions.
