Amazon Web Services (AWS) announces expansion of AWS Ground Station to the South America (São Paulo) Region with an AWS Ground Station antenna location in Punta Arenas, Chile in Preview. This is the 10th AWS Ground Station connected to the AWS Global Network. AWS Ground Station is a fully managed service that lets you control satellite communications, process satellite data, and scale your satellite operations. Global expansion to Punta Arenas now enables satellite owners and operators to connect with their satellites and process their space workloads more frequently. An additional AWS Ground Station location in the Southern Hemisphere reduces the time between contacts for Low-Earth Orbit satellites. Customers who operate from this region now have access to even lower latency processing capabilities. Governments, businesses, and universities can benefit from this more timely satellite data to make precise, data driven decisions.

With AWS Ground Station, you pay only for the antenna time that you use. Cross-region data delivery is included in our pricing, enabling customers to either stream satellite data from any of our antennas to Amazon EC2 for real-time processing or instead directly store data in Amazon S3. Additionally, customers can easily integrate their space workloads with other AWS services in near real-time using Amazon’s low-latency, high-bandwidth global network. For example, customers who downlink terabytes of data daily can easily access AWS Services such as Amazon SageMaker to quickly derive useful information.

Customers can transmit and receive data using AWS Ground Station antennas in the following locations: US (Oregon), US (Ohio), Middle East (Bahrain), Europe (Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Europe (Ireland), Africa (Cape Town), US (Hawaii), Asia Pacific (Seoul), and South America (Punta Arenas). Customers can deliver data and configure their contacts with the AWS Ground Station console in the following regions: US West (Oregon), US East (Ohio), Middle East (Bahrain), Europe (Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Europe (Ireland), Africa (Cape Town), US East (N. Virginia), Europe (Frankfurt), Asia Pacific (Seoul), and South America (São Paulo). More regions and antenna locations coming soon!
