Amazon EMR Serverless is a serverless option in Amazon EMR that makes it simple to run applications using open-source analytics frameworks such as Apache Spark and Hive without configuring, managing, or scaling clusters.
Today, we are excited to announce support for AWS Graviton2 (ARM64-based architecture) for EMR Serverless. AWS Graviton2 processors are custom built by Amazon Web Services using 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores that provide top-tier price performance for cloud workloads. EMR Serverless applications powered by AWS Graviton2 offer up to 19 percent better performance and 20 percent lower cost per resource compared to x86-based instances. To use this option, simply choose ARM64-based architecture for your EMR Serverless application, and make sure that any custom library that you submit with your job is compatible with ARM64. Visit the documentation and Amazon EMR Serverless pricing page to learn more about using Graviton2 with EMR Serverless.
EMR Serverless with Graviton2 support is available in the US West (N. California, Oregon), and US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Paris, and Stockholm), South America (Sao Paulo) regions.
