Today, AWS announced the opening of new AWS Direct Connect locations in Melbourne, Australia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Zurich, Switzerland. By connecting your network to AWS at one of these locations, you gain private, direct access to all public AWS Regions (except those in China), AWS GovCloud Regions, and AWS Local Zones.

The Direct Connect service establishes a physical network connection between AWS and your data center, office, or colocation environment. These private connections can provide a more consistent network experience than those made over the public internet.

  • The new Melbourne location is the second in the Melbourne area and the seventh in Australia. Dedicated connections are available at 1 Gbps, 10 Gbps, and 100 Gbps, with MACsec encryption available for 10 Gbps and 100 Gbps speeds.
  • The new Direct Connect location in Buenos Aires is the first in Argentina. It offers dedicated 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps connections, with MACsec support available for 10 Gbps.
  • This announcement adds a second Direct Connect location to the Zurich area and represents the 35th location in Europe. It offers 10 Gbps and 100 Gbps speeds, both with options for MACsec encryption.
