Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) now supports AWS Graviton2-based M6g and R6g database instances in Asia Pacific (Hyderabad, Jakarta), Europe (Spain), and the Middle East (UAE). Depending on the database engine, version, and workload, Graviton2-based instances provide up to 19% better price/performance than comparable M4 and R4 instances.
If your instance is using a major version that supports Graviton2, such as PostgreSQL 12.11 and higher, MySQL 8.0.32 and higher, or MariaDB 10.4.28 and higher, you can upgrade to Graviton2 by modifying the database instance type to M6g or R6g using the AWS Management Console or AWS CLI. For RDS for MySQL and RDS for MariaDB database instances, you can consider using RDS Blue/Green Deployments to update your database instance to Graviton2. Your instance will continue to work as normal, and you will not have to change any application codes to connect to Graviton2-based RDS instances. For more details, refer to the Amazon RDS User Guide.
With this regional expansion, M6g and R6g database instances are now available for Amazon RDS in US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon, N. California), Canada (Central), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Stockholm, Spain), South America (São Paulo), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Hyderabad, Jakarta), the Middle East (UAE), and AWS GovCloud (US) regions.
