We are excited to announce that AWS Fargate for Windows containers on Amazon ECS has reduced infrastructure pricing by up to 49%. Fargate simplifies the adoption of modern container technology for ECS customers by making it even easier to run their Windows containers on AWS. With Fargate, customers no longer need to set up automatic scaling groups or manage host instances for their application.
Windows containers running on Fargate are billed per second for infrastructure (compute per vCPU, and memory per GB), and Windows Server licenses (per vCPU) that their containerized application requests. Along with the infrastructure pricing for on-demand, we are also reducing the minimum billing duration for Windows containers to 5 minutes (from 15 minutes) for any Fargate Windows tasks starting February 1st 2024 (12:00am UTC). The infrastructure pricing and minimum billing period changes will automatically reflect in your monthly AWS bill. For more information on the specific price reductions, see our pricing page. Starting today, customers can also purchase a Compute Savings Plan (CSP) at the reduced prices, which allows them to save more in exchange for making a one- or three-year commitment to a consistent amount of compute usage.
Fargate support for Amazon ECS Windows containers is available in all commercial AWS Regions, including the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. It supports Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release on Fargate Windows Platform Version 1.0.0 or later. For more information about running Windows containers on AWS Fargate, see our public documentation.
