AWS Activate Overview

Q: What is AWS Activate?
AWS Activate provides your startup with the resources you need to build and grow on AWS—including up to $100,000 USD AWS Activate Credits, 24x7 technical support, and training benefits. Visit the AWS Activate page to learn more.

Q: Who can apply to AWS Activate?
Any startup associated with a select venture firm, accelerator, incubator, or other startup-enabling organization that works with AWS Activate (AWS Activate Provider) may apply for AWS Activate benefits. You can find a non-exhaustive list of AWS Activate Providers on this page. If the organization you are associated with is on the list, we encourage you to contact them to ask about applying.

Q: The startup-enabling organization I work with is not listed as an AWS Activate Provider. Am I eligible for AWS Activate benefits?
The list of AWS Activate Providers on our website is not exhaustive. Check with your startup-enabling organization to see if it is an AWS Activate Provider. If not, ask your startup-enabling organization to become an AWS Activate Provider.

Q: My startup is NOT working with any startup-enabling organization. Am I eligible for AWS Activate benefits?
Currently, we provide AWS Activate benefits only to startups associated with an AWS Activate Provider. We will soon have a new AWS Activate benefits package available for bootstrapped startups not working with an Activate Provider. If you would like to receive updates on this program, email us and we’ll keep you informed.

Q: We are a startup. Can you recommend a local AWS Activate Provider to connect with?
We are not able to recommend an AWS Activate Provider. We encourage you to browse the AWS Activate Providers page for the list of providers and choose the ones that best suit your startup. You can contact a provider directly for more information.

Applying to AWS Activate

Q: How do I apply for AWS Activate benefits?
You must be associated with an AWS Activate Provider to apply for AWS Activate benefits. Your AWS Activate Provider will provide you with application details.

Q: What information do I need to fill out for the AWS Activate application?
The information you need to start an application is a valid AWS account ID and a valid Org ID. Also ensure that you have an actively monitored email address to apply with. If you would like to update the email address to receive application updates, contact us.

Q: What is an Org ID?
An Org ID is a 4- or 5-character, case sensitive, unique identifier you receive from your AWS Activate Provider, which determines the benefits package you may be eligible for.

Q: Do I need an AWS account to join AWS Activate?
Yes. You need an active AWS account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one for free. If you already have an account, you can find your account ID on the AWS Billing and Cost Management console. If you have an account but it isn’t active, contact AWS Support.

Q: How long does it take for my AWS Activate application to be processed?
It usually takes 7-10 business days for your application to be processed. During this time, the AWS Activate team will verify your association with the AWS Activate Provider and review your application details.

Q: I’m associated with more than one AWS Activate Provider. Can I apply more than once?
Yes. You can apply for AWS Activate benefits through more than one AWS Activate Provider, and you might be eligible for more AWS Activate Credits. However, you can’t combine AWS Activate Credits from multiple providers. You will receive only the highest value of AWS Activate Credits you are qualified to receive based on all of your provider associations.

For example: If one AWS Activate Provider's offer qualifies you for $1,000 USD AWS Activate Credits and another offer qualifies you for $2,000 USD AWS Activate Credits, you will be eligible to receive a total of $2,000 USD AWS Activate Credits.

See more examples.

Q: How many times can I apply to a specific AWS Activate Provider’s offer?
You can apply to and benefit from an AWS Activate Provider's offer only once.

Q: Do I need a promotion code to join AWS Activate?
No. You don’t need a promotion code to join AWS Activate, and the AWS Activate team doesn’t give promotion codes. On the Credits page of the AWS Billing and Cost Management console, you can ignore the Promo Code and Security Check fields.

Application Status

Q: Will I be notified of my application status updates?
Yes, the AWS Activate team will send you emails to inform you of your application status.

Q: My application was not approved because AWS Activate can’t confirm my association with my AWS Activate Provider. What should I do?
Ask your AWS Activate Provider to contact us to confirm your association with us.

Q: What should I do if I don't hear from the AWS Activate team after 10 business days?
It is possible that the delay is because your AWS Activate Provider hasn’t confirmed your association yet. Contact your provider about approving your AWS Activate application. If you need further help, contact us.

Q: Why wasn’t my application approved?
Refer to the notification email for specific reasons why your application wasn’t approved.

AWS Activate Credits Overview

Q: I was accepted into AWS Activate! What do I need to do to get my AWS Activate Credits?
Your AWS Activate Credits are automatically applied to your AWS account upon receipt of your application approval email. You don’t need to take any action.

Q: Where can I find details about my AWS Activate Credits?
You can find the exact credit amount, expiration date, remaining balance of your AWS Activate Credits, and the applicable AWS services on the bottom section of the Credits page on the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.

Q: How are my AWS Activate Credits applied against my bill?
Your AWS Activate Credits are automatically applied against your monthly bill.

Q: Can I use my AWS Activate Credits to cover bills I received prior to application of the credit?

No. The AWS Activate Credits can’t apply to any historical billing retroactively prior to application of the credit.

Q: What is the maximum amount of credits my startup can receive?
A startup can receive up to $100,000 USD AWS Activate Credits over its lifetime.

Q: Why did I receive a different AWS Activate Credits amount than what my AWS Activate Provider specified in the offer?
The most common cause is that your startup received credits in the past. AWS Activate Credits are not cumulative. The credits amount mentioned by the AWS Activate Provider is the maximum amount of credit you are eligible to receive from their offer.

If you are approved for an AWS Activate Credits offer with a credit amount higher than a previous offer, you will receive the difference between the two credit offer amounts.

For example: A startup receives $5,000 AWS Activate Credits from an accelerator and later receives funding by a venture capital firm that offers $7,500 USD AWS Activate Credits. The AWS Activate Credits the startup is eligible for from the second offer is $2,500 USD, not $7,500 USD.

If you have received the same or a higher AWS Activate Credits amount in the past, your application for the current offer will not be approved.

For example: A startup receives $7,000 AWS Activate Credits from an accelerator and later is accepted into an incubator program that offers $5,000 USD AWS Activate Credits. The startup will not be eligible for the second offer from the incubator.

Q: How long are my AWS Activate Credits valid?
AWS Activate Credits are valid for up to two years. You can view the expiration date of your AWS Activate Credits on the Credits page of the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.

Q: Why is the expiration date of my AWS Activate Credits less than two years from the date I received my application approval email?
Not all AWS Activate Credits last two years from the date you receive your application approval email. To confirm when your AWS Activate Credits expire, review the information on the Credits page on the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.

Q: I’m working with a Solutions Provider (reseller) and my AWS Activate application is being reviewed. What should I do?
The AWS Activate team will contact the Solutions Provider (reseller) to inquire how best to apply the AWS Activate Credits to your account. You can also reach out to the Solutions Provider (reseller) directly to discuss the AWS Activate Credits allocation.

Q: What types of credits does AWS Activate provide?
AWS Activate provides two major types of credits: AWS Activate Credits that cover AWS services and AWS Activate Business Support Credits that cover technical support. Different types of credits can’t be used interchangeably.

Q: How do I keep track of my AWS Activate Credits usage?
You can keep track of your AWS Activate Credits usage in the bottom section of the Credits page on the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.

Q: I used all the AWS Activate Credits provided by my associated AWS Activate Provider. Can I get more credits?
The AWS Activate team can’t provide you with additional AWS Activate Credits. However, if your startup becomes associated with another AWS Activate Provider, you may qualify for additional AWS Activate Credits. Ask your new AWS Activate Provider about getting more credits.

Q: How are my AWS Activate Credits applied to Reserved Instances?
AWS Activate Credits are applied to Reserved Instances the same way as other AWS promotional credits.

Q: My AWS Activate Credits were used by mistake. Can I get more credits?
The AWS Activate team can’t apply more AWS Activate Credits if your credits are incorrectly provisioned or consumed. Keep track of your credit usage and note that all eligible AWS services provisioned in your account consume your AWS Activate Credits.

Q: Can I transfer or sell my AWS Activate Credits?
No. You may not sell, license, rent, or transfer AWS Activate Credits. If you violate this policy, your AWS Activate Credits may be revoked. For more information about the policy, see AWS Activate Terms & Conditions.
