AWS RTB Fabric Documentation
AWS RTB Fabric is a network infrastructure service designed exclusively for real-time bidding (RTB) communications between advertising technology (AdTech) companies. This service provides a specialized network environment enabling supply-side platforms (SSPs) and demand-side platforms (DSPs) to exchange bid requests and responses with optimized latency and reduced data transfer costs. AWS RTB Fabric serves as an infrastructure provider that facilitates RTB communications but does not provide advice, recommendations, or interest-based advertising services. It is designed so that you maintain full control over your advertising decisions.
Core Network
AWS RTB Fabric helps you execute RTB transactions between RTB requesters (originates or sends the bid request) and responders (receives the bid request, evaluates it, and returns a bid response) on a purpose-built network that connects you with your AdTech partners. SSPs (who manage publisher inventory) act as requesters sending bid requests, while DSPs act as responders evaluating bids in real time. With AWS RTB Fabric you can create a dedicated network gateway colocated with your RTB workload, connect with your AdTech partners, and route RTB transactions. AWS RTB Fabric prioritizes routing requests and responses within an availability zone shared between AdTech partners to help optimize network performance and reduce latency. You can send requests and responses within the AWS RTB Fabric network or through the public internet. AWS RTB Fabric supports OpenRTB protocol traffic exclusively. The service may only be used for RTB communications.
Load Balancing
AWS RTB Fabric provides load balancing capabilities that distribute RTB traffic to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) or Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) clusters, offering intelligent traffic distribution as an alternative to traditional load balancers. The service uses Domain Name System (DNS) based routing to dynamically distribute incoming RTB requests across healthy hosts within the responder's infrastructure. The service is designed to eliminate the need for responders to manage their own networking infrastructure for traffic routing.
Modules
AWS RTB Fabric includes modules to help you manage RTB traffic based on patterns such as attributes, characteristics, and volume. These modules operate only when you enable them and according to the parameters you define.
The service provides built-in rate limiter, OpenRTB filter, and error masking traffic management modules to help protect RTB workloads and support operational efficiency. You can configure built-in traffic management rules to execute automated RTB operations or integrate your own ad decisioning functionality in the network path before your RTB workflows. The following modules are available:
- Rate limiter: Helps you control the rate of requests by limiting queries per second (QPS) to manage performance from traffic spikes.
- OpenRTB filter: Allows you to filter RTB requests and responses based on OpenRTB protocol specifications such as format and location.
- Error masking: Allows you to mask sensitive information when errors occur during RTB processing.
