Performance at scale
Scaling SQL without compromise
Amazon Aurora provides unparalleled high performance and availability at global scale for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DSQL. For PostgreSQL and MySQL, Aurora’s decoupled compute and storage architecture allows each to scale independently, and support horizontal scale-out. Aurora has 5x the throughput of MySQL and 3x of PostgreSQL with full PostgreSQL and MySQL compatibility.
Aurora DSQL is the fastest serverless distributed SQL database for always available applications with zero infrastructure management. Its serverless architecture adjusts compute resources in seconds to handle changing workloads, while maintaining consistent performance as your data grows from gigabytes to petabytes.
Performance at any scale
Amazon DynamoDB provides predictable single-digit millisecond performance at any scale. As an example, DynamoDB powers multiple high-traffic Amazon properties and systems including Alexa, the Amazon.com sites, and all Amazon fulfillment centers. Over the course of Prime Day, these sources made tens of trillions of calls to the DynamoDB API. DynamoDB maintained high availability while delivering single-digit millisecond responses and peaking at 146 million requests per second. DynamoDB can automatically scales to match any workload without requiring capacity planning or manual intervention.
Caching
Amazon ElastiCache accelerates database and application performance with microsecond latency by storing and processing frequently accessed data in RAM. It helps you get more out of your existing database infrastructure by reducing the number of read operations on your primary database. ElastiCache can scale to match the fluctuating demands of your applications, up to hundreds of terabytes of data and hundreds of millions of operations per second with microsecond latency. With ElastiCache, you can handle more concurrent end users without needing to overprovision your database infrastructure thereby reducing costs.
Real world performance
Whether you’re building new applications or scaling existing ones, AWS Databases provide reliable performance at any scale including powering some of the world’s most demanding applications:
- Financial trading platforms processing millions of transactions per second with microsecond latency
- E-commerce sites handling billions of requests during peak shopping events
- Gaming platforms supporting millions of concurrent players with consistent performance
- Social networks managing petabytes of data with single digit millisecond response times
