This consulting offer helps organizations to overcome the challenges with their IT applications running on legacy technology platforms. It is a managed services offer leveraging HCLTech's IP and methodology to deliver the service.
HCLTech’s IP "Automated Technology Modernization Accelerator (ATMA)" helps to achieve the modernization of business applications running on legacy technologies by refactoring them to run on modern technology stacks such as JAVA, .NET, and NodeJS. It supports a wide range of legacy technologies such as COBOL, JCL, Natural, PL/1, HPS on Mainframe, RPG, Lansa on Midrange and Oracle Forms, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic, TIBCO on 4GL domains. The core part of the solution involves automated transpilation of the legacy application sources into modern code through the ATMA platform, then carry out the refactoring and testing activities. ATMA platform also offers flexibility on the implementation frameworks for the target platform, so that the modernized application complies with the technology standards, architecture principles, and best practices of the organization.
The modernization engagement may begin with an application portfolio assessment exercise to identify the candidate applications and appropriate modernization treatments from Gartner's 7 R's. The solution approach described here is suitable for applications identified for "Refactor" or "Rearchitect" treatments where the application functionality remains like to like in the modernized state with the following benefits:
- Technical debt due to legacy platforms eliminated
- Applications transformed into loosely coupled architecture
- Web based user interfaces provided to deliver better user experience and usability
- Efficient build and deployment processes enabled
The detailed methodology and step by step approach of this solution offer for modernization of each of the identified applications is described in the next section titled "Key Activities"
