Indiana, USA
Champion since 2023
The City of Fishers, Indiana, has approximately 100,000 constituents and is located just north of Indianapolis. Comprised of 38 square miles, Fishers has grown rapidly over the past few decades. The city‘s comprehensive plan, “Fishers 2040,” provides a vision of Fishers as a smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial city that provides an exceptional quality of life and fosters a culture of innovation and resiliency. Its goals across land use, residential standards, transportation and parks, and open space can be summarized in five key themes: connected, innovative, resilient, accessible, and sustainable.
Since 2016, the City of Fishers has been on a digital transformation journey sponsored by the mayor. The widespread modernization of 114 apps, including payroll and financial software (Tyler Munis), document management systems (used in permitting and inspection, human resources, and public safety), and MFA and Single Sign-On (Okta on Amazon Web Services (AWS) used for residents), all of which needed to function seamlessly and efficiently to free employees from paper, time-intensive processes, and tedium that inhibited the kind of growth and creativity the mayor craved. There was a cultural change required, which was spearheaded by the Business Solutions Group.
