Georgia Data Analytics Center
Georgia, USA
Champion since 2023
The Georgia Data Analytics Center (GDAC) is a small division of seven employees housed within the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget. GDAC was tasked to enable and empower policy makers, legislatures, state agencies, and operational leaders with timely access to accurate data. GDAC’s objective is to support policy development that will improve operational efficiencies in Georgia and provide data transparency and accountability within the state. GDAC has established a data governance committee and formalized state agency partnerships through the data sharing agreements and data management policies.
GDAC built a data lake house from scratch in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud to empower its public and private entities to serve their constituents better. The GDAC modern architecture utilizes industry best practices to enable data and infrastructure automation. GDAC is using several services including: Amazon S3, Amazon Athena, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, Amazon Workspaces, Amazon ECS, Amazon ECR, AWS Code Commit, AWS Code Pipeline, and Amazon Guard Duty to support its data lake.
GDAC is a huge success in Georgia with several agencies voluntarily approaching to house their research data. Example data sets include: Georgia’s All Payer Claims Database (APCD), healthcare workforce data, child welfare data, opioid overdose and death data, Medicaid data, water and sewer inventory, budgeting, and operational data.
