AWS CloudFormation Adds Support for AWS IoT and Additional Updates

AWS IoT is a managed cloud platform that lets connected devices easily and securely interact with cloud applications and other devices. AWS IoT can support billions of devices and trillions of messages, and can process and route those messages to AWS endpoints and to other devices reliably and securely. With AWS IoT, your applications can keep track of and communicate with all your devices, all the time, even when they aren’t connected.

CloudFormation has also updated support for several existing resources:

  • AWS Identity and Access Management custom names: Specify custom names for IAM users, roles, and groups.
  • Amazon API Gateway updates: You can now do the following when provisioning API Gateway resources with CloudFormation.
    • Indicate when API Gateway should pass requests to the backend specified.
    • Use JSON objects in the Schema property for API Gateway models or in the Body property for API Gateway Swagger API specification.

You can now also download a diagram of your template resources in a PNG format file using CloudFormation Designer.
