AWS Direct Connect is now live at its first location in the Middle East in Dubai, United Arab Emirates at Equinix DX1. In the Management Console, this location can be found under its home region of EU (Ireland). Customers in the Middle East can now establish a dedicated network connection from their premises to AWS. With global access for AWS Direct Connect, you can use this location and reach AWS resources in any global AWS region using global public VIFs and Direct Connect Gateway. When connecting to any AWS region, your data will not hairpin via the home region of EU (Ireland) if it is not in the shortest path to your desired AWS region.
As with any AWS Direct Connect location, this new location conform to the standard resiliency model that includes two customer facing devices per location that allow customers to establish locally resilient connectivity and redundant connectivity to the Amazon backbone network. Please take a look at our resiliency recommendations when planning your connectivity. Using AWS Direct Connect, you can establish private connectivity between AWS and your datacenter, office, or colocation environment, which in many cases can reduce your network costs, increase bandwidth throughput, and provide a more consistent network experience than Internet-based connections. Connections are always made to a particular Direct Connect location, and can run at either 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps, or work with a partner to connect at speeds less than 1Gbps.
Please see the AWS Direct Connect webpage for details on our locations and pricing. This location gives access to all global AWS Regions as shown in our region table.
