AWS Elemental MediaConnect now supports RGB 10- and 12-bit 4:4:4 color spaces via AWS Cloud Digital Interface (AWS CDI) enabling workloads such as color grading, that require high-fidelity color at low latencies. The RGB 10- and 12-bit 4:4:4 color spaces are in addition to the currently supported option of YCbCr 10-bit 4:2:2.
Using lossless JPEG XS compression technology, AWS CDI automatically detects the incoming color space and passes it through to JPEG XS decoders with as little as 8ms of end-to-end latency. When coupled with color grading applications and a JPEG XS decoder, colorists can grade content with limited on-premises equipment. With the additional color space options, AWS CDI now supports workloads where visually lossless fidelity, accurate color, and low latency are required.
The new color spaces are supported with no special configuration in all AWS Regions where MediaConnect is available. For more information please read the blog on color grading workflows and read the MediaConnect documentation.
