Amazon RDS and Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle offer bare metal instances to enhance license flexibility
Amazon RDS for Oracle and Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle now support bare metal instances to help you optimize licensing costs. A bare metal instance is an entire physical server without AWS Nitro hypervisor. Because you are the only customer using the physical server similar to your existing on-premises environment, bare metal instances may offer more advantageous Bring Your Own License (BYOL) licensing options. Additionally, we offer bare metal instances at lower prices than Nitro virtualized instances of the same size, making running Oracle workloads on Amazon RDS and Amazon RDS Custom even more cost-effective.
You can further reduce your total cost of ownership by consolidating your Oracle workloads on a bare metal instance because you get the compute, memory, and I/O capability of an entire physical server at a cost-effective price point. There are different options available for you to consolidate multiple databases, including multiple schemas in a single database or multiple pluggable databases in a container database, serving different applications. Choose the right bare metal instance across various instance families and sizes. Bare metal instances provide full visibility about the number of CPU cores and sockets of the physical server which you may use for your Oracle license consumption.
