Continuing to support flexibility and control for UK customers

Since we pioneered cloud computing in 2006, AWS has been committed to giving customers the freedom to choose the technologies that best meet their needs. Whether that means using AWS services exclusively, combining multiple cloud providers, or moving workloads to on-premises infrastructure, we believe customers should always be in control of their technology decisions. That’s why we are introducing a new UK Customer Addendum that formalizes our commitment to customer choice with clear, comprehensive rights around multi-clouding, data portability and switching processes.

What’s included in the addendum?
The UK Customer Addendum establishes a structured framework that give UK customers clear rights around data portability and switching providers. UK-based customers will be covered by the UK Customer Addendum automatically – you don’t need to take any action to benefit from these rights.

First, it provides customers with a clear switching process, including defined timelines and the right to receive reasonable assistance from AWS Customer Support throughout any transition. Customers can continue using AWS services during transitions to ensure uninterrupted operations, and they can switch individual services or entire accounts with transparency about each step of the process.

Second, the addendum formalizes the free data transfer benefits we announced in 2024 for customers who are switching providers. Upon confirming a customer’s request qualifies as a switch, AWS will provide free credits corresponding to the cost of transferring data out to the internet during the transitional period. Additionally, for customers using AWS alongside other cloud providers (not as part of a switch), AWS will provide reduced rates not exceeding our costs for transferring data between providers.

We believe the cloud industry thrives when customers can freely choose the best solutions for their needs, combine technologies from multiple providers, and move workloads efficiently.
