“AWS is how”: TheFork helps customers book the best tables in town at any time
By using cloud solutions on AWS, TheFork can easily store booking information for millions of users, and create personalized web pages for each of its partner restaurants.
Try a new restaurant or revisit one of your favorite tables; either way, the main aim is to find an establishment that will delight you and show you a good time. To avoid a long wait and be sure of a table, it is better to book.
Regardless of the day or time, you can count on TheFork, a Tripadvisor company. One of the leading online table booking services in Europe and Australia, TheFork offers 24/7 booking services at more than 60,000 partner restaurants in 12 countries. In 2020, the company migrated to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud to maintain the high availability of its mobile app and website, provide a pleasant experience for its customers, and help restaurants optimize bookings.
TheFork wanted to quickly migrate to the cloud without compromising the quality of its online services. To achieve this, the company asked AWS to help accelerate its digital transformation. In just four months, TheFork was able to migrate 80% of its data to the cloud. Over this period, its customers were able to continue booking and receiving their exclusive rewards as part of TheFork
's loyalty program with virtually no interruption. And once the company's migration was complete, its website and app were able to handle twice as much traffic as a year before. At present, TheFork has nearly 30 million website visits per month, and its app has been downloaded more than 30 million times.
Since TheFork works with more than 60,000 restaurant partners, the company needs data storage solutions that can scale rapidly as its operations expand internationally and as new restaurants
sign up to join TheFork. Using AWS cloud solutions, TheFork can easily store booking information for millions of users and create personalized web pages for each of its partner restaurants. Customers can view detailed restaurant ratings and availability almost in real time before booking a table. They also receive email and text reminders so they can keep track of their bookings.
Another advantage of using cloud solutions for TheFork is being able to focus on value-added tasks for the company, rather than managing the infrastructure to meet demand. For example, TheFork offers recommendations of good restaurants in France on its food blog and social networks, as well as industry news and information on gastronomic trends. Customers can view this new information at a time that is most convenient for them, and find inspiration to try new restaurants or recipes. The company also launched TheFork PAY, a contactless payment solution that allows customers to pay their bills securely with a few swipes on their mobile device.
