GoDaddy accelerates product development with Claude Code in Amazon Bedrock
Learn how GoDaddy, a software platform, launches new products by accessing AI-assisted coding tools in Amazon Bedrock.
Benefits
Overview
GoDaddy is a leading software platform serving over 20 million customers and powering more than 80 million domains. To help its customers build websites and bring their ideas online faster, the company is reimagining how its developers build and deliver new products.
With AI advancements, GoDaddy saw an opportunity to transform its development practices by providing its developers with secure access to Anthropic’s Claude Code through Amazon Web Services (AWS). This approach is accelerating innovation and helping GoDaddy to deliver new capabilities to millions of businesses globally.
Opportunity
Fueling rapid product development using agentic AI
Founded in 1997, GoDaddy is on a mission to empower entrepreneurs everywhere. The company offers a broad range of solutions that help people create an effective, memorable online presence and grow their businesses.
GoDaddy aims to build products that help its customers keep pace with changing markets. “We’re focused on building AI products for both our software developers and customers,” says Jay Gowdy, senior principal architect at GoDaddy. “We want to bring our company into the age of AI and bring our customers along with us.”
To accelerate product development, GoDaddy’s developers began experimenting with AI-assisted coding tools, such as Claude Code. Built for both experienced developers and those with less coding experience, Claude Code uses agentic search to analyze entire codebases without manual context selection, helping it deliver highly accurate, complex code through natural language prompts.
However, providing thousands of developers access to these capabilities required strong governance and data protection. GoDaddy needed a way to deploy Claude Code securely and cost-effectively to help its teams innovate with confidence.
Solution
Providing secure access to Claude Code in Amazon Bedrock
For years, GoDaddy has relied on AWS to run mission-critical infrastructure and to serve as the foundation for its evolving developer platform, GoCode. As the company began charting a path into generative AI, its leadership looked for a foundation that could offer both scale and governance. This led the GoDaddy team to adopt Amazon Bedrock, a secure, enterprise-grade service for building generative AI applications and agents across the company.
By integrating the company’s internal GoCode platform with Amazon Bedrock, GoDaddy established a unified and tightly controlled entry point for its developers to access Claude Code and a broad set of foundation models. This approach safeguards AI innovation within a secure, compliant environment, helping the company maintain complete control over how customer and organizational data is managed. Using Amazon Bedrock, there is zero data retention in AWS, and none of GoDaddy’s data is used to train its foundation models, which is essential for maintaining trust at scale.
“Generative AI is a technological and operational shift for GoDaddy,” says Travis Muhlestein, product and AI CTO at GoDaddy. “Our responsibility is to fuel innovation without compromising trust. By deploying GoCode using Amazon Bedrock, we’ve created an AI foundation that scales with our ambitions while meeting the highest bar for security and data stewardship.”
Through a single API proxy, all 2,000 developers can use GoCode to safely interact with AI models while maintaining strict separation between backend systems and the application interface. GoDaddy also integrated Amazon Comprehend, which helps users uncover valuable insights from text within documents, into GoCode. Now, the company can automatically detect and block inputs containing personally identifiable information.
Within GoCode, developers can experiment with hundreds of foundation models to test new ideas and accelerate their workflows. GoDaddy’s team has especially strong adoption rates for Claude Code, which assists with security updates, software maintenance, and other manual coding tasks. “We use Claude Code in Amazon Bedrock for so many things. It’s incredible,” says Gowdy. “I’ve been coding for a very long time, and Claude Code is career-changing for me.”
Outcome
Launching AI-powered experiences to support small businesses
The introduction of Claude Code in Amazon Bedrock has transformed GoDaddy’s developer experience, helping support the company’s product development and time to market. Developers can now complete projects that would typically require 2-week sprints in under 1 week.
This shift in productivity helped the company develop and launch Airo.ai, a beta agentic AI website and experience that turns a simple conversation into completed tasks for small businesses. Airo.ai uses proprietary data based on GoDaddy’s nearly 30 years of experience helping tens of millions of small businesses. The benefit of the Airo agent is that it keeps the conversation in context, evaluates goals in near real time, and hands work to the best specialized agent to get the job done quickly.
Looking ahead, GoDaddy plans to use Claude Code to automatically evaluate its software code before deployment to improve platform stability and fuel more innovations. “It’s a sea change,” says Ankit Jhalaria, director of engineering at GoDaddy. “We can employ AI-assisted coding to build features and find defects faster while reducing the cost of maintaining our software.”
We use Claude Code in Amazon Bedrock for so many things. It’s incredible. I’ve been coding for a very long time, and Claude Code is career-changing for me.
