Amazon QuickSight adds embedded authoring, namespaces for multi-tenancy, and more
Amazon QuickSight now allows customers to embed dashboard authoring capability within third party applications and portals. Customers (e.g., Independent Software Vendors or ISVs, enterprises) can now provide self-service data exploration, ad-hoc data analysis, and dashboard authoring capabilities directly to their end-users. Customers benefit from not having to repeatedly create custom dashboards based on ad-hoc requests from their end-users, while also creating strong product differentiation and up-sell opportunities within their applications.
With this launch, QuickSight provides namespaces, a multi-tenant capability that allows customers to easily maintain data isolation while supporting multiple workloads within the same QuickSight account. For example, customers can now assign a dedicated namespace to readers and authors for one organization, who will be isolated from readers/authors in other namespaces. This ensures that end-users of an application with QuickSight authoring capabilities can only discover and share content with other QuickSight authors or readers from their own organization, without exposing any data to users of the application from other customers. All current QuickSight users are provisioned in default namespaces within their account; QuickSight administrators can add additional namespaces via APIs. At launch, non-default namespaces support federated single sign-on authentication only.
QuickSight now also provides custom user permissions, which allow administrators of QuickSight accounts to restrict specific capabilities from standard QuickSight author roles. At launch, this feature allows admins to restrict authors from creating/updating new data sources, new data sets and email reports. Lastly, user experience customization options allow ISV developers to remove QuickSight-specific samples and getting started content, as well as specify default QuickSight themes for their namespaces.
Together with QuickSight’s existing embedding capabilities, these new features allow customers to provide customized, sophisticated dashboard embedding, dashboard authoring, data exploration and dashboard sharing experiences within their application workflows. All features available in Amazon QuickSight Enterprise Edition in all QuickSight regions - US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon), EU (Frankfurt, Ireland and London), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo).
