How Creative Fabrica Unleashed Generative AI on AWS

"The support we’ve received from the AWS team, particularly in managing costs, has been commendable.”

Imagine a world where creators are unburdened by technical constraints, free to transform their ideas into tangible, stunning designs within minutes. Creative Fabrica, a global nexus for designers and creative enthusiasts, has a mission to make this vision a reality.

Enter Flow, a proprietary, free-to-use, multimodel generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tool built on top of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Flow empowers creators to transform, animate, and create digital assets and seamlessly transition between models and design types. Users can collaborate with others and iterate on their AI-generated designs, fostering a dynamic creative community.

“Because Flow is a freely accessible Gen AI tool, cost effectiveness was a fundamental business issue that we sought to address,” says Roemie Hillenaar, CEO of Creative Fabrica. “We also needed to provide high-speed performance and manage sudden surges in demand efficiently.”

To bring Flow to life, Creative Fabrica adopted scalable, highly available services on AWS. It uses Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) P4d Instances, which are powered by NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs, to power its Gen AI applications. Using Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS), a fully managed container orchestration service, Creative Fabrica scales Flow’s server usage as needed.

On AWS, Creative Fabrica can keep Flow running smoothly and keep it freely available for users, no matter how many people are using it or how complex their design requests are. Flow can handle user requests efficiently, whether there’s a sudden surge of users or a calm period of lower demand.

“By taking advantage of user-friendly, readily available AWS services, we have saved countless hours,” says Dani Zieren, product manager of new verticals and discoverability at Creative Fabrica. “This has led to indirect cost efficiencies through enhanced productivity and expedited project timelines.”

Since the beta launch in May 2023, more than 300,000 images have been generated using Flow, demonstrating the tool’s vast potential. Using Amazon Translate, a neural machine translation service, Creative Fabrica has scaled the solution to a broader range of global users. The scalability and flexibility offered by AWS have been critical to this success, and Flow has been able to remain a free resource.

“The support we’ve received from the AWS team, particularly in managing costs, has been commendable,” says Yalun Zheng, senior machine learning engineer at Creative Fabrica. “This assistance has not only facilitated our scaling efforts but also empowered us to continuously push the boundaries of what we can achieve.”

On AWS, Creative Fabrica continues to empower creators and drive innovation in the digital creative industry. It will soon scale up Flow with a comprehensive promotional campaign and plans to integrate the tool with its mobile app, which will serve as a social network for AI-generated art.

“The swift adaptation and adoption of AI tools by our designers has been awe inspiring,” says Hillenaar. “They are using these advancements to expedite their design processes, enhance their creativity, and bolster their earnings. We foresee Gen AI not only becoming increasingly prevalent in our domain but also acting as a catalyst for innovation and productivity.”

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner ML6 puts artificial intelligence (AI) to work for its customers. Like Creative Fabrica, a social marketplace where crafters can access fonts, graphics, and digital designs. Using AWS, ML6 created an image generator for the company, whose 1 million registered users have already generated millions of images. Here, ML6 project manager Jan Van Looy talks about the potential of generative AI to unleash innovation and creativity for clients and end users. And the role of AWS in helping to safeguard the most important customer asset of all: data.
