The NFL Big Data Bowl is an annual sports analytics contest from NFL Football Operations that invites everyone from college students to data pros to evolve how the NFL uses advanced analytics. In its 8th year, this year's competition focuses on predicting player movement and is open through December 2025. Follow these three steps for the best submission.

The deadline for Leaderboard competition is 12/3/25, and the deadline for the Analytics competition is 12/17/25.

Make sure you answer the prompt. Don’t try to solve all of football or stray out of the bounds of this year’s ask. Make sure your figures and charts are formatted at the correct size so they can easily be read without zooming in. Make sure you spend enough time on the write-up in addition to the technical submission. If you can, we suggest making it fun to read too!

Yes, it’s very important that you know and speak to any limitations and do not wildly overstate what your submission capabilities are. Be realistic, as you are given a very narrow slice of data and a very short time frame. 

We want to take your submission seriously, and all of these elements are key to a professional submission beyond just the technical aspects. Make sure your title is informative and memorable, and include a conclusion where you wrap things up.
