With AWS Private 5G, you pay only for the network coverage you order where network coverage is measured in radio unit hours or $ per radio unit per hour. The pricing information includes delivery, infrastructure service maintenance, and software patches and upgrades. You can purchase each radio unit in your network for a 1-year or a 3-year commitment period. Prior to the end of your initial 1-year or 3-year commitment, you may setup the commitments to renew at your initial rate for an additional year. You can also choose to start your network order with a pay-as-you-go 60-day commitment for each radio unit and then upgrade or order additional radio units for 1-year or 3-year commitment periods. There are no upfront fees or per-SIM charges associated with AWS Private 5G.

If you deactivate the network site before the end of your commitment period, you will continue to be invoiced for the remaining time left under your commitment period. After your commitment period expires, you are billed hourly for the duration each active radio unit.

Additionally, for data transferred out to the internet within the AWS Region or across AWS Regions, you will be charged at the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) standard data transfer rates listed here.

Example 1: Point-of-sale and access management devices at an event

You are an events company in the United States. You are hosting a festival and want to use AWS Private 5G to send point-of-sale terminal information and access-management data from your devices to your event-management applications. You order an AWS Private 5G small-cell radio unit and 100 SIMs for your event. You install one SIM per device. Each device sends 512kb of data every 60 seconds for the 7-day event. Your total outbound data transfer is 5.1 GB for the event. AWS does not charge for the first 100 GB of internet-bound traffic per month. This means that your data transfer costs are $0 for the event. You return the radio unit after the event and dispose of the SIMs per your local requirements. You use AWS Private 5G for a 60-day commitment. Your cost for 30 days is $7,200 per radio unit. Your total cost for 60 days is $14,400 per radio unit. The following table shows the cost breakdown.

Example 2: Video streaming from security cameras at a construction site

You are a construction company in the United States. You want to use AWS Private 5G to ingest video data from your security cameras that are spread across 3 floors to Amazon Kinesis Video Streams for processing and analysis. Your security cameras broadcast 8 hours a day. To cover your site, you order one AWS Private 5G radio unit with 50 SIMs with a 1-year commitment. You install one SIM per camera, and send a total of 20 Mbps of data through the radio unit to Amazon Kinesis Video Streams. AWS does not charge data transfer from your data source writing to an Amazon Kinesis Video Streams data stream.

You use AWS Private 5G for 1 year, at a cost of $3,905.50 per radio unit per month. Your total cost for 1 year is $46,866. The following table shows the cost breakdown.

Cost calculation Monthly cost Total cost

Example 3: Cameras and tablets in a large manufacturing facility

You are a large manufacturing facility in the US and want to use AWS Private 5G to connect your cameras for video surveillance and tablets for your operational staff. Additionally, you have hand-held devices used by your operational staff to connect to web applications to send and receive data. For 25 cameras broadcasting 8 hours a day and 125 hand-held devices with each device sending and receiving 4 MB of internet traffic every 5 minutes for 10 hours a day. Based on the radio propagation characteristics in areas with minor obstructions, we estimate you will need 2 small-cell radio units to address your coverage and capacity demands. You install one SIM per camera and hand-held device. AWS does not charge data transfer from your data source writing to an Amazon Kinesis Video Streams data stream.
